Safety Guidelines
DatingRealPeople is built around trust and verification — but the most important safety tool is you. These practical steps help you connect with confidence, online and in person.
In immediate danger? Contact your local emergency services right away (for example, 911 in the US). Your safety comes before the app — reach out to us afterwards.
Getting to know someone
- forumKeep chatting on DatingRealPeople. Our safety and moderation tools only protect conversations that stay on the platform. Be cautious if someone quickly pushes you to text, WhatsApp, or another app.
- videocamVideo call before you meet. A quick live call confirms the person matches their photos and profile. Someone who always has an excuse to avoid video is a red flag.
- verified_userLook for verification. Prioritise members who have completed ID and liveness verification and carry a healthy trust score — those signals are earned, not bought.
- lockGuard personal details. Keep your home and work address, daily routine, financial information, and full legal name private until you know and trust someone.
Meeting in person
- storefrontMeet in public, first time every time. Choose a busy café, restaurant, or bar. Save private settings and someone's home for when trust is well established.
- directions_carArrange your own transport. Get yourself there and back so you can leave whenever you want, without relying on your date.
- share_locationTell a friend and share your plan. Let someone you trust know who you're meeting, where, and when. Use the in-app safety check-in to log your date and share your live location.
- local_barStay aware. Watch your drink, know your limits, and never leave food or drinks unattended.
- battery_charging_fullKeep your phone charged. A charged phone keeps you connected to help and to the people who know your plans.
Trust your instincts
- psychologyIf something feels off, it probably is. You never owe anyone your time or continued conversation. It's okay to end a date early and leave.
- do_not_touchWatch for pressure. Be wary of anyone who pushes your boundaries, rushes intimacy, isolates you from friends, or makes you feel guilty for taking things slowly.
- health_and_safetyUse the safety check-in. Before an upcoming date, complete the in-app safety checklist and know how to send a discreet help request if you feel unsafe.
Never send money
No genuine match will ask you for money, gift cards, or crypto — especially before you've met. Requests tied to an "emergency", a travel cost, a customs fee, or a can't-miss investment are the signature of a romance scam. Walk away and report it.
See the full scam guide in the app arrow_forwardReporting & blocking
- blockBlock anytime. Blocking someone immediately stops them from contacting or seeing you. You never have to explain why.
- reportReport bad behaviour. Use the report option on any profile or conversation. Reports are confidential and feed directly into our trust and moderation system — repeated reports lead to automatic suspension.
- support_agentReach our safety team. For anything that needs a human, email safety@datingrealpeople.com. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services first.
